Questions for a first cup of coffee

 

            How long have people been writing,

            Ten thousand years or so?  Not very

            Long anthropologically, and how

            Long have they been talking?

            Longer sure, but saying what?

            And have they gotten any smarter?

            And if some of them have

            They aren’t writing or talking

            But squirreled away in labs

            Making drones, artificial limbs

            And ships that will fly them to Mars.

            So what about the rest of us?

            Shall we go on talking and writing

            While the earth grinds us to dust?
