Stones

 

I looked good, he said,
And Susan too – is the sort
Of thing they often say.
Am I thinking clearly   
About this: has Susan
Forgotten to take her
Medication?  I’ve set it out.

Then getting  Ben and
Duffy we drove to the river
But they set out stones
Before the entrance
To the trail.  I put on
Gloves and rolled them
Away, but they had been

There okay.  I saw
Their tracks tractor-
Deep in the sand
And wondered
If the setter of stones
Objected to the debris
Or just me.
