A difficult day, 3-10-11

[using an E500 & a Sigma 18-125mm lens]

It was difficult because Sage was temporarily lost at the river.  She does this periodically.  She reminds me of the scene from Jurassic Park where a goat is put in the Tyrannus Rex pen.  They wait but nothing happens.  Finally someone observes, “she doesn’t want to be fed.  She wants to hunt.”  In Sage’s case it isn’t hunting.  It’s scavenging.  We were crashing through brush, Duffy & Ginger ahead of me, Sage ranging behind doing her thing, but we came out the other side without Sage.

We turned around and headed back toward the Jeep.  I called “Sage” from time to time.  Ginger looked around for her.  Duffy ran into the bushes looking for her.

When we got back to the Jeep she was there, panting, stickers and abrasions on her coat, and greatly relieved that we had found her.  She always knows the way back to the Jeep; so we shouldn’t worry, but we do anyway.

But before that . . .
